NOCTURN SPORT

Nocturn Sport compared with the big bookmakers

What bet365, William Hill, Betfair, Paddy Power, Sky Bet and DraftKings are known for, and what we do differently.

Updated October 4, 2026

If you bet in the UK, Ireland or the US, you already know the big names. This bookmaker comparison puts Nocturn Sport next to six of the most searched — bet365, William Hill, Betfair, Paddy Power, Sky Bet and DraftKings — and tries to be fair about it. We are a smaller, focused sportsbook with one clear idea: our odds are calculated in-house by our own models. The big brands offer plenty we don't, and we say so below.

Nocturn Sport in one paragraph

Nocturn Sport prices football, ice hockey and baseball with a Poisson goals model, basketball, American football and rugby with a points model built on normal distributions, and tennis, MMA and League of Legends with Elo ratings. A bookmaker margin is then applied proportionally to each outcome. The bet slip at nocturnsport.com handles singles and accumulators of up to 10 selections, one per event. Markets close 1 minute before the start. We are pre-match only for now — in-play is being built — and we are also a sportsbook supplier for other operators.

The six bookmakers, briefly

bet365

bet365 is best known for the sheer depth of its in-play betting and for streaming a large amount of live sport to account holders. Its market list on a major football match runs into the hundreds, and its bet builder and cash-out tools are widely used. If you want to bet during the game on almost anything, it is the reference point.

William Hill

One of the oldest names in British bookmaking, William Hill is familiar from high-street betting shops as much as from its website. Racing and football are its traditional strengths, and it offers the full range of modern features: in-play, cash-out and price boosts.

Betfair

Betfair is famous for the Betfair Exchange, where punters back and lay against each other rather than against a bookmaker, alongside a conventional Sportsbook. Exchange prices are set by its users, which makes it a favourite of traders and of anyone who wants to lay an outcome.

Paddy Power

The Irish bookmaker is known for its cheeky marketing and its specials and novelty markets. It sits in the same group as Betfair, and offers a broad sportsbook with in-play betting and cash-out.

Sky Bet

Sky Bet is a household name in UK football betting, closely tied to Sky Sports coverage. Punters know it for its acca and bet-builder style products and its "Request a Bet" feature on social media.

DraftKings

DraftKings grew out of daily fantasy sports and became one of the largest sportsbooks in the United States. NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL are at its core, with same-game parlays, player props and a big live offer.

Where the big brands are ahead

Let's be plain about it. If your betting is mostly in-play — the next corner, the next point, the next drive — the established books are where you'll find it today. The same goes for cash-out, bet builders, horse-racing depth and player props. They have huge trading teams and decades of product behind them, and a match on bet365 or DraftKings will simply show more markets than it does with us.

What Nocturn Sport does differently

  • Transparent pricing. We tell you which model priced which sport, and our pricing guide explains how. You can compare our probabilities to your own view rather than guessing what a trader did.
  • Independent lines. Because our numbers are modelled rather than copied, they occasionally disagree with the wider market. That is where a thoughtful bettor can form an opinion — sometimes we will be closer to the truth, sometimes the market will.
  • Tested on unseen games. Measured on past matches, our football model was checked on 1,973 games it had not been trained on, and the basketball model on 1,712, beating a simple base-rate forecast in both cases.
  • A simple slip. Pick, stake, confirm. Accas up to 10 legs, no clutter.
  • Esports priced properly. League of Legends series are built from map-level Elo, so the Bo3 or Bo5 price, the ±1.5 map handicap, the total maps and the correct score are consistent with each other. More in our esports hub.
  • A supplier too. Operators can run our book under their own brand — see sportsbook software.

Which one should you use?

Many bettors keep more than one account, and that is sensible: comparing prices is the simplest edge there is. Use a big book for in-play and cash-out; use Nocturn Sport when you want a second, independently modelled opinion on a pre-match price. Whatever you choose, set limits and read our bankroll management guide. Over-18s only.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nocturn Sport better than bet365?

It depends on what you want. bet365 offers far more markets, in-play betting and streaming. Nocturn Sport offers modelled pre-match odds with a published method and a simple slip.

Does Nocturn Sport have cash-out like Sky Bet or Paddy Power?

No. There is no cash-out at the moment, and betting is pre-match only.

Is Nocturn Sport a betting exchange like Betfair?

No. It is a traditional fixed-odds sportsbook: you bet against our prices, not against other punters.

Why compare odds across bookmakers?

Because the same outcome can be priced differently. Taking 2.20 instead of 2.05 on the same selection adds up over hundreds of bets — see odds formats for implied probability.
